Dark Visions
by L.J Smith
Dark vision is about a girl named Kaitlyn, she is a girl with telepathic powers. Kaitlyn cannot control her powers in fact she is very afraid of her power. She is an outcast at her school because of her “power”. So there is this teacher named Joyce who asked her if she wanted to learn how to control this power of hers. She of course agreed, and then was sent to a school which helped her in controlling her powers. Of course she made friends and enemies. After being at this school for awhile she discovered that something was wrong. I won’t tell you what because that would ruin the book but this book is a very amazing book that is interesting. There is a lot of violence, romance, magic, and twists! Definitely a book that people should read.
The book I read was Black by Ted Dekker. It’s one of three books–“Red” and “White” are the other two that continue the trilogy. It was quite an interesting book to read I’ll say. It had many twists and turns from real reality to dream reality. Ted Dekker was raised in the jungles of Indonesia and is now living with his wife and children in the mountains of Colorado, where he writes his many novels.
Thomas (Tom) Hunter is an early-20’s guy who lives in Denver in an apartment with his sister Kara. He works at a coffeeshop and has several manuscripts of books he’d like published, at home. He also was raised in the Philipines, learned how to defend himself against gangs there, and has borrowed a bunch of money that he has to pay back (which is why he’s in Denver–he’s running from the lenders). He’s found by his lenders, and shot. He wakes up in a black forest, where he is convincingly told he’s a survivor from a spaceship . Evil bats, specifically the leader named Teeleh, pursue him and tear much of his flesh from him before he escapes over a river into a beautiful colorful forest…and he thinks Denver is a dream. Tom wakes up in a garbage can in Denver. He thinks the forest is a dream. But now every time he falls asleep he wakes up in the forest. And every time he falls asleep there he wakes up on Earth. The green forest is inhabited by perfect humans, and one is named Rachelle who he falls in love with. But one man crosses the river where he eats fruit from the sly Teeleh in the black forest, and the whole world turns to evil. Tom has found out from Teeleh that on Earth a virus will be unleashed called “the Raison strain” and Earth’s inhabitants will be virtually wiped out. He tries to warn those on Earth, but by so doing so he unknowingly gives the information needed to create this virus into the wrong hands. In the other Earth he is becoming a great leader against those humans who have turned evil, and on Earth, he is becoming one who can come back to life, and the only one who can save Earth from destruction is Tom. His story is continued in “Red” and “White.”
What I really enjoyed about this book was it’s twisted plot. In one or two chapters, Tom would be in his real reality and then another chapter or two after that he’d be in his dream reality. It switched back and forth constantly so you wouldn’t be confused about the story. It was great. This book was very enjoyable for someone like me who hardly ever reads. I actually think this is my new favorite book.
My recommendation on this book is that you have to read it! No exceptions! This story is targeted to make your mind rush with adrenaline from what all is going on. You wont be able to put down this book after you start reading it, trust me. Make sure and continue with the trilogy to see what happens to Tom and to see if the world gets wiped out by “the Raison strain” or not.
Kristina is the angelic child, talented high school student, reserved, and always
on the right track. Until she meets her worst enemy: crank. What begins as one big party slowly turns into a fight for survival and sanity.
In the book CRANK, Kristina is a totally innocent teenager. Nothing to fear, and everything to look forward to. That is, before she’s sent to live with her distant Father, for the summer, who has had nothing to do with her until now. When she gets there she realizes its not exactly the Mariot Hotel, infact during her stay she finds herself trying to avoid the friendly ‘roaches. Kristina meets a boy that lives across the hallway, and this boy changes her life….forever. His name is Adam, and he intoduces Kristina to what she learns to need and learns to call ‘the monster’. When she returns home to her mother and siblings, she notices everything about her is different. Her whole outlook on life has changed, and she no longer feels the need to please everyone around her.
The unique facts about this book is what makes it a personal favorite of mine. The way its writtin, is like a poem that tells ones story to make every reader aware of the situation and real life teen problems. CRANK is a special book that can relate to almost every teenager in many differnt ways. It’s not about fictional vampires (Twilight)or faries, it’s about something worth reading, about something you should look out for, maybe even something someone you’re close to has gone through or even a personal experience.
What I liked about this book was not being able to put it down, and relating to it in several differnt ways. I also liked the format of the pages, so it wasnt so overwhelming and not so straight forward so I had something to think about beyond what was writtin right in front of me. I liked the fact that it was all so real but that it made me realize what I had to to lose if I were in that situation, the sort of news flash i got from reading and turning every page. The not being able to predict what was going to happen next.
I strongly recomend this book to anyone who has ever questioned the other side, or wanted a different point of view on this type of thing. I think EHHS students should read CRANK because it has a message that everyone should know and realize its something that happens to everyday students like them and around them.
Ask and It Is Given is an awesome book. Esther and Jerry Hicks are the great writers of this informational book. This book tells about the life of Esther Hicks and how she has come to deliberately create her life as she is living it.
It presents the teachings and theories of a non-physical entity Abraham. Abraham is speaking to all who read, through Esther and Jerry Hicks, for most of the book.
This book also represents various situstions and problems and teaches you to evaluate each one. It explains how to give you better emotions and feelings whenever you need to. You’ll learn up to twenty different ways to make you feel better after reading this book.
It will help you learn how to manifest any and all of your desires, to where you are always living joyously.
As you read, you’ll come to understand how your relationships, career choices, and even health issues can be influenced with a more positive flow of life.
This book is great and I think that everyone should read this at least once.
The uniqueness of this book is great, there is no book like it. It is a whole new outlook on life, and can even change your life, I’m planning on reading it again and again until it is lodged in my brain.
READ THIS BOOK!
This story is about a girl named Susie Salmon. She was fourteen when she was murdered by a neighbor Mr. Harvey. The plot of the story is about her family trying to overcome the heartbreak and stay together. Also about her in heaven watching her families live their lives.
In the lovely bones Susie is an every day young teenager in the eighty. She’s walking home from school one day when a neighbor of tricks and kills her. She wakes up in heaven and sees her family’s reaction. After a few days after the initial reaction her father starts thinking about his daughter. A week later a neighbor’s dog found her elbow so the police announce her legally dead. One day Mr. Salmon was walking through the neighborhood and saw that his neighbor Mr. Harvey needed some help with a tent in his back yard. While he was helping he said something about his daughter that no one else knew. At that point he realized that Mr. Harvey killed his daughter. He called the police and no one believed him. After some time and drama Susie’s mom ended up leaving her two remaining kids and husband. At that point Susie’s grandma Lynn moved in with them. Her little brother Buckley was only four when his sister died. It was really hard for him later on In the story because he remembered being really close to her when he was little and really felt like he needed her with his mom gone. You see him grow up in the story. Also you hear about her little sister Lindsey. Her sister was only two years younger than her. At the beginning of the book when her dad figures out who kills her sister she believes him. A year after Lindsey breaks into Mr. Harvey’s house and steals a picture that could help them catch him. Unfortunately Mr. Harvey Saw her leaving and called the police and reported a break in. Lindsey has a boyfriend named Samuel who she ends up married to by the end of the book. Lindsey was described as a very beautiful girl and extremely smart. Every summer she went to a camp for the gifted.
The summer right after her sister was killed at camp the big challenge was how to perform the perfect murder. Susie’s mother Abigail ends up leaving her family because of the stress of losing a child. It is the hard on everyone. After about ten years Susie’s father has a heart attack and her mother goes back. At that time her daughter and son both hated her for leaving them and for hurting their father.
The rest of the book you’re going to have to read and I would recommend this to everyone. For anyone who is curious yes the book was better than the movie. The best thing about the book is it is from everyone’s perspective and it’s really easy to get into at the first page.

They keep holding on to the hope that someday soon their grandfather will die and they will be set free. Want to know all the secrets in this powerful story of survival, strength, and love? Read this great book!
I liked everything about this book. Because it has so many different aspects and emotions that it’s hard to describe. It makes you feel angry, happy, sad, and mad as hell, you want to kick the mother and grandmothers’ butts. It talks about so much like growing up, abuse, family, love, and betrayal, loyalty, feeling so completely trapped, and having no control over your own life. In some ways I think we can all relate to the characters, at some point in our lives, you don’t want to grow up or you are growing up too fast? It talks about abuse, it makes you think about the thousands of children in the world who are abused and sometimes killed every day. Family and love usually go hand in hand, I love my family so much I don’t believe it’s possible to describe, but could you imagine being betrayed by the one that was supposed to protect you from all evil, then that same person drags you to hell on earth. Having no control over your own life? I think we have all been there at least once.
I would recommend this book to EHHS students because it tells how everything can fall apart in an instant. It makes you imagine what kind of stuff children who are abused go through every day. It may even encourage you to step up and help someone you know or even someone you don’t.
Sweep by Cate Tiernan is about a 17 year old girl (Morgan Rowlands) who thought she was nothing special, just a normal plain girl. When Cal comes into her life she is introduced to the Wiccan religion and Morgan happens to have Cal as her soulmate. From there is where the story begins. Morgan with Cal by her side soon realizes the challenges that lay ahead of her will test her strength and trust in people she has known her whole life forever.
Whats different about this book from other books is that it’s not just a love story it’s about Morgan finding out who she really is and how she discovers things she never knew about. This book makes you think about your own life and some of the choices you have made.
I reccomend tis book because it is an amazing book and to give it a shot. What’s life without risks!? So take a risk and read tis amazing book!
I read a book called “Peter and the Starcatchers” writen by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. The book is about how Peter became Peter Pan.
Peter is a young orphan boy, who is being shiped of to england. To be sold as a worker, or a slave for the qween or something like that, alng with a few young boy orphans,who will become the lost boys. there stuck in a small dark room at the bottem of the ship, with berly and food, so peter gose and trys to still some reall food, were he meets a young mysterious girl named Molly. but she was in the higher class, so they werent aloud to even talk to eachother.well one night when peter snuck out of the small room to go find some real food for him and the boys, he finds a room that was being garded. He figurd thats were they kept the food, so he snuck in passed a sleeping gard. when we was in there, there was a box, and as his eyes ajusted, right abouve the box, he saw a foating rat. In the book you can tell Molly knows about whats in the box. But refuses to tell Peter, But he is to stubern to give up figuring it out.
I loved all writing in the bok, it wasa very disciptive. It was also a pretty easy read, yeah it was kinda long, but there are a few pictures in it so its not so boring.
The book is filled with magic, adventure, pirates, and love. and i highly recomend it to anyone that is into stupid fanticy stuff.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times over many years and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travelers and researchers. The introduction begins like this:
“Space” it says, “is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly hugely mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to space.
This story begins with a man named Arthur Dent, who woke up at eight o’ clock on a Thursday morning and had discovered later on that his house was being knocked down for a bypass. Then even later on that Thursday morning that his home planet “Earth” was going to be blown up to make way for a hyperspatial express route.
And even later on that day he found out after about five maybe six years his friend, Ford Perfect was actually from the vicinity of Betelgeuse.
Who later on that morning saved him from being destroyed with the Earth.
Which sent Arthur Dent, a ape-descendant, into a wild mind-bogglingly adventure
(but not as mind-bogglingly as space)
Where he discovers strange creatures, and even stranger Galactic Presidents. And and girl that he met on Earth at a Islington flat where Arthur went to a very good party, whom he totally failed to get off with, she went off with a gate-chaser, who happened to be the strange Galactic President.
This book is about Arthur Dent’s adventure in the galaxy but I won’t give much more away because I want you to read this mind-bogglingly amazing book.
So have fun reading this and remember, DON’T PANIC!
The Wringer
The Wringer is about a town that once evey day during the summer they shoot pigeons and if they dont die on the first shot then ten year old boys run on the field and wring there necks. A young boy named Palmer is about to turn ten and realizes that he does not want to be a wringer. To make things worse a pigeon frequently shows up at his house and Palmer can’t get rid of it. His friends hate pigeons and find out that Palmer has a pigeon and they ridicule him and bully him. He then asks his year younger friend, Dorothy to get rid of it and she lets it go at the railroad track, but little did she know that that is where they get the pigeons. It ends up that Palmer catches his pigeon before it gets shot and walks off the field.
The thing that would be unique about this book is how the Main character is so young, but yet so independent. Palmer does so much with out his parents opinion or aproval, which i like because it makes me think that even though you are of a young age you can still have a mind of your own and not have to do what ever you do because its what your parents think. He keeps a pigeon, he has friends that his mom can not stand, and he does this treatment every birthday where he must get as many sucker punches to the arm as his age.
My favorite part of this book was when he tells his friends the truth. That he has a pigeon, He doesnt want the treatment any longer, and He never did and never will want to be a wringer. The reason i like this is because he finally convinced himself that he needs to tell his friends the truth and realized that even though he doesn’t do what ever his parents say, he’s been doing everything he’s been doing because he tried to impress his friends by doing what they thought was cool. Even though they didn’t like that and ridiculed him a lot after that, I’m glad he did what he should of done in the first place.
This book is a book i guess i would recomend. It wasn’t a book that really struck me or jumped out at me, but the story wasn’t bad. I like more suspenseful, eerie stories, but if you like kind of slow and calm books that aren’t jumping all over the place it would be great. The moral of the story is simple and plain. It is that you should always be true to everyone and especially yourself. Another thing i like in books is a hard meaning to understand, not insanely confusing, but a little difficult. I think everyone that loves simple morals and slow storyboarding should deffinetly read this book.
The book I read is called “Free Money what ‘they’ don’t want you to know” by Kevin Trudeau. After reading this book I felt like the key to power is knowledge because the more you know about the government the more you can get money from them with their programs.
What this book is about is the writer Kevin is telling you about a whole bunch of government programs to get you “free money” well that is what he says. Sometimes he says found money is free money when it was like money you lost like from dormant banks you forgot about. That’s not all he has to offer but what he tells you about is how to save money too! Like lawyers who do it for pro bono(for free) and tax deductable things. Like if you have children and when you have to go to work so you pay a babysitter to watch over them. That’s not even close to what he has to offer you there are tons of opportunities for you even though you might be wealthy there are still tons of opportunities that you can apply for.
This book is really cool because it gives you tons of information on how to find missing or forgotten bonds, unclaimed property and safety deposit boxes that you forgot about. What I like the most is he would layout these 200 page document to see if you would qualify and just lays it out nice and pain. So you wouldn’t have to read all that extra junk that the government puts in.
What I like about this book is that he tells actual information on how to get money and not lies. I also like his personality because while he is giving you important information he adds a joke like here and there.
Finally, I would like to end this Review with a 4 out of 5 rating. I want to recommend this book to you because it will save you tons of cash and get you tons of cash. This book would deffinantly be worth your Cash!!

Number the Stars-
Ten year old Annemarie is no fool. As her and her Jewish friend Ellen are stopped by German Soldiers on their way home from school, they immediately realize something abnormal is going on. Few Days later, all the Jews are called to their church for a ‘private’ meeting. During this meeting the Jews learn that the Germans will get rid of their people, as soon as that night. Ellen’s parents are erratic and they all advise a plan to leave Ellen with Annemarie’s family while her parents hide in a more unsafe place. Annemarie’s family treats Ellen as their sister and daughter when the Germans come to their house late one night. The family decides it’s unsafe for them to be there, and take off to Annemarie’s Uncle’s house. Down at her uncles house, him and his family had already come up with an amazing plan to help the Jews escape. One night, Annemarie’s mother tries to explain to her that her Aunt Birte had died. Annemarie knows that she’s never heard of a great aunt Birte before, and refuses to believe. The night of the funeral for their ‘great aunt Birte‘, many Jews show up at Annemarie’s uncles. German Soldiers come to investigate the large number of people gathering together, and leave after they learn its only a funeral. Ellen’s parents show up, and open the casket to find it is filled with blankets and food. Slowly, one by one, Uncle Henrik leads the Jews to his ship not too far from his house. Within the Morning all the Jews had escaped, not without difficulty during the night.
Some good facts about this book are that there are a lot of things in it that really happened during that time. The story, is fiction, but all the details about the time and place are true. The way people felt and how scared everyone was, made me think how lucky we are to live in a place that we do now, where there is almost no racial discrimination.
There are many things I like about this book. I like that it tells about how hard it was for the people back then, and how strong they were. It gives me a taste of what people had to go through back then, and made me realize how easy it is nowadays.
I would recommend this book to people because it has a lot of great information and also helps us realize a lot of things that I had never thought of before. It also helped me understand that their challenges they had to go through were a lot more disrespectful and cruel then what we face today.
hey matt, it’s me, JACK! Anyways… Here is my book report, written right off my memory ;D
The glass castle is a very memorable book, and probably one of the best reads I’ve ever encountered in my lifetime. It was funny, sad, dramatic, and above all, interesting. Here are a few things about the book
Jeannette Walls and her family are not a normal family. They don’t live in a certain place, then stay there. They, as some people put it, “are on the run” when things get too difficult. The story mostly takes place in various desert regions, but does end up a good portion in a little city called Welch. All in all, the story can really take you on a trip.
What i liked about this book was no matter what happened, it sill kept me interested. I don’t know what part about this book it was, but it was all kind of conglomerated into one good read. I think my favorite part was around the end. I won’t say what exactly, because i wouldn’t want to spoil a good ending. And that is something i don’t take pride in.
Some unique parts about this book, history wise, was that the author got some components right. The battle mountain area where they lived, was sort of like a Las Vegas gone Gold mine. And that, was very cool. Another thing was New York, and it literally felt like i was there. I mean, i was still in the classroom and all while reading it.
I would for sure recommend this book to EHHS students, because it gives you a realization, that you CAN’T have everything, and that you sometimes have to just “work it out” like Jeanette in her childhood.
The Hobbit or There and Back Again
Keegan McCarty
The Hobbit was written in 1937 by J.R.R. Tolkien. It tells the story of a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins that is drafted as the burglar into a journey to take back Dwarves’ gold in the Lonely Mountains. The gold was taken by Smaug the dragon. Gandalf the Gray is the one who introduces the thirteen dwarves to Bilbo. The story is told by a narrator that explains things of the world. The thirteen dwarves are named Thorin Oakenshield, Balin, Dwalin, Bifur, Bofur, Bomfur,Dori, Nori, Ori, Fili, Kili.
In the Wilder lands, three trolls capture the dwarves and Bilbo and try to decide what to do to them, but Gandalf tricks the trolls into fighting long enough for the sun to come up so they turn to stone. They travel to Rivendale to meet Elron and his elves. He shows more to a map of the mountains that says a riddle on how to open the back door to Smaugs lair. After leaving Rivendale to travel through the Misty Mountains, they are captured by goblins and taken into the mines in the mountain. They are taken to the Great Goblin and Gandalf kills the Great Goblin. They escape through the tunnels, were Bilbo is lost and finds a magic ring.
As he goes into the tunnels, he meets Gollum by his lake. They engage in a riddle game, were Gollum loses the game with Bilbos riddle “what is in his pocket”. Gollum goes to his island to get his ring, but finally gets the answer to the riddle. He chases him, but Bilbo puts on the ring to see he is invisible, jumps over Gollum instead of killing him. After he gets out of the tunnels, he finds the wizard and dwarves were they are attacked by wargs and goblins, but are saved by eagles.
After staying in the house of Beorn, a shape shifter, they leave for Mirkwood. Gandalf left them for the rest of the way, where they got captured by wood elves for killing the spiders in Mirkwood. Bilbo breaks them out of the village by putting them in barrels and going down a river. When they get out they enter Lake Town, saying they had come to kill Smauge. When they go to the mountain, they cannot get in until Bilbo gets them in with the moon light.
There Bilbo awakens Smauge who goes to destroy the Lake Town, but is killed by Bard the Bowman. The lake men and wood elves come to the mountain to take some of the gold, but Thorin won’t give up the gold. As they are about to fight, Gandalf comes to warn them of the goblins and wargs that are coming. So they all fight, but just as the goblins and wargs are about to win, the eagles show up. Thorin was killed on the battle with Kili and Fili.
Bilbo refuses his share of the money and returns home, to find his stuff being auctioned off. He gets it back and is seen in bad light for going on an adventure.
The book was good, only problem was that the dwarves except for Thorin have no personality. I recommend it to those who like fantasy novels.

Jack Kerouac Was Born in 1922, He was the youngest of three children, He was born In Lowell, Massachusetts, He Played a lot of football in High school, And even got a scholarship to Columbia university, But doped out his sophomore year To Join the merchant marine. His hole lIfe he was Searching for happiness and peace. Ge died in 1969 At the age of forty seven from liver failure From Heavy Drinking. And this is his story.
We start our In San Francisco Getting Silly Drunk. He was under cover, So He did not get recognized but then he sis, and he was on The verge of leaving he could not take everything anymore. “One Fast Move and I’m gone” he Says. As he gets a cab That will drive him down the coast To Big Sur.
He gets to The woods And With only A Lamp IS trying to find he way threw the fog and all the mud and tree’s to get were he will be staying. But he didn’t make it that night he Slept by the creek, But not to far from the little cabin witch he would be staying for a while.
In the morning he woke with fear, Big sur had reputation of being beautiful but I think he was more frightened. But when he arrives at this cabin he starts TO settle in and really enjoy it.
A few days later he was alone in the woods for good, and he thought it was so beautiful.
Settling down with warm-glow wood stove and kerosene
peace you’re looking for, peace you’ll find
in the tangled mad cliff-sides and crashing dark of big sur
Rapturous ring of silence pacific fury flashing on the rocks, the sea shroud towers

So This Book Was About a Guy Who just wanted to get away, Who Just wanted to fine peace. And find where he belonged. It was a really Great Book. All of the poetry was writen by jack Kerouac.

When I started reading Chicken Noodle Soup for the Teen Soul, it surprised me about how much i can relate to the kids stories. One of the stories i had read was about a guy and girl, and how he cheated on her. Here is a little peice of it,”There we are in my drive hopeing kno one can see us we are danceing on the roof of your car hopeing it don’t cave in. Sometimes you make me cry, and I kno i cant be the only girl to love you, but at least I no I was the First to leave highhill marks on your heart.”
This book probly could relate to anyones childhood, and I think thats why this book is so unique. there were stories that made me cry and ones that made me laugh and mad, but thats what made me more intrested in it. I personaly think that the editors, and writters who put this book together did a wounderful job with choosing the stories and putting them into order.
The thing I liked most about this book would probly be the love stories. They were so sweet and the made me cry most of the time but that was best part. because I new that anyone could relate to these stories and touch them like they have touched me. I have changed my life and the things I say to others alot because I relised that the things you do and say really do affect others, and I deffently would not want to be treated that way.
I beleive that alot of kids at EHHS could really relate to this book, because of all the emotion going on in this book that it would defently keep the intrested. It not just for teens it could be for anyone, even the adults.
The book i have read is Numbers by Rachel ward,
its about a girl named Jem she can sees peoples death of dates like when she looks at someone in the eyes numbers pop up and Jem will know their last day to live.Jem has see death befor that was her mother her mother died of herion overdose her mother was a big time junkie the day her mom died that was her last day seening her Jem had no now so they took her to this lady name Karen.Jem is fifteen know she didn’t like her life is going to change she’s going to be seening more death and numbers she will be meeting a friend people call him spider they will be on adventure togeather while she’s on the adventure she will experience to make friend,trust people,and fall in love………But at the end of the adventure she will lose something important to her then gain something back.
I really like this book it got me hooked in it everytime something exciteing was going to happen i would have so many questions i got all of my questions answers at the end.there are some part i would change about it but it was great book.I think people would love it because its for teenagers and adults too.
the zombie survival guide

“The zombie survival guide” is one the most extensive zombie guide I’ve ever read. Its very detailed and has lots of use full tips. sI’m a huge zombie nut as well as bacon but this has though me a lot. like destroying your stairs (pg.66)”because zombies cant climb” and that any automatic or semiautomatic requires discipline (46) and such. This book covers many great categories like on the run or living in an undead world and the details of different scenarios in a lot of different situations like if the moans of the zombies are constant than that can lead to insanity or that boredom can lead to suicide or murder. there are so many factors that you have to consider like your and the groups mental strength as well as there physical shape.
I’ve found this book to be very interesting though personally i don’t believe that There is a zombie Apocalypse around the corner. I do believe that this is a fun and entertaining book. something that i found funny is that the books genre is humor lolz any way my favorite part was the weapons section because i learned the most about undead killing devices like about the .22 semiautomatic rifle because even though it has like absolutely no stopping power it can Peirce the human skull and once inside it doesn’t just pass through it will ricochets around inside causing great brain damage. and the rounds are nearly weightless and its quiet and if you add a silencer its a silent deadly weapon vs the undead but do keep in mind that since it uses such a small bullets is doesn’t have much range.
i personally recommend this book to any one just wanting false information for a good time if your looking for a quality fictional zombie guide you cant beat “the zombie survival guide”if your not into learning how to stay alive in a zombie Apocalypse than maybe you would like max brooks novel “world war z” it tells you about a journey of people in the zombie apocalypse.
I read the book “Splinter Cell Checkmate.” Over all it’s a great book. I have read the two other splinter cell books before this one and I plan to keep reading the series. I have also read some of the other Tom Clancy books and I think they are all great. He is a very good conceptionist. The main reason I like this book is because I like action. If its not fast moving it’ll bore me.
The main character in the story is Sam Fisher. He is a highly trained operative of third echelon, a branch of the NSA. He is the definition of a spy. As he is called off vacation, he is sent to a small boat supposedly carrying radioactive material. After investigating he discovers that there is. The boat hits a small city in Mexico, and poisons the water supply killing six million people. Many would call this a terrorist attack. Sam calls it a mission. Sam’s job along with the help of the people at third echelon, is to discover the killer and deal with them.
The creator of this book, tom Clancy, is a military expert. Literally. The reason I like his books is because he actually knows what he is talking about.
I liked this book because the writer is so descriptive. He made the scene so easy to picture so the book was more enjoyable. I also liked the overall story line. I like any splinter cell story line. Other than likes I had some dislikes. The story switches between Sam’s story, and explaining the back story. This is good but also very boring, and sense it switches a huge part of the book is boring. But I guess it cant all be exciting.
This is a really good book and I think anyone who likes action books should read it. Even if you don’t like military, its very entertaining. This isn’t my favorite book, but it is my favorite series. Overall great.
I read the book called ‘Weight of Silence’ by Heather Gudenkauf. This book was about a little girl, named Calli, who was a selective mute. She was a selective mute because of a tragic event that happened when she was four. Calli’s mother tried to be the best she could. Her mother was married to a violent man who constantly got drunk. Petra Gregory is Calli’s best friend. She helps Calli with everything. Petra is Calli’s ‘voice’. So, one evening while the girls were sleeping, in their own homes, they were lurred out and they dissapeared. The families of the two girls now wonder what happened to them and where they are. Throughout the book, the families are trying to find their daughters and hoping no harm has come to them.
What I liked about this book was that it showed several different people’s points of view. So, you didn’t just see what one person saw, you saw several different views of the story. I also liked how interesting this book was. I haven’t read another story like it. It was great.
I suggest this book to other readers because it was a really good book that you would most likely enjoy. It is a moving story, and it will draw you in.
Heather Gudenkauf was a best selling author. Heather had a hearing impediment, and she often used books to retreat. The weight of silence is her first novel.
So, this is a great book that you all should go and read.

Devoured is about Megan, a girl who applies for a job at the amusement park Land of Enchantment for the summer in order to keep an eye on her boyfriend, Ryan, and his best friend, Samantha. (Who admitted to Megan at a party that she’s in love with Ryan.) Taking on the job as Snow White; Megan befriends the owner’s daughter, Ari, and Land of Enchantment’s artist, Luke. With Megan’s dead twin sister, Remy, haunting her and only Luke is able to see her, they begin to try to solve the reason why Remy won’t pass over to the “other side” and why girls around town are being murdered. Megan’s own best friend, Veronica, is one of the girls who are murdered.
I loved this book! It was an incredibly twisted, modern-day take on Snow White. It had me guessing the whole time, giving me only one answer and ten more questions with every plot twist. It had chills running down my back at some points. It made me think about how the people who come across as completely normal could very well be absolutely insane. Megan was a completely relatable character, with her flaws and quirky mother who just wouldn’t listen to her and have a little faith in what Megan was saying.
I would recommend this book to anyone who isn’t a big fan of Fairytales, because this made me like Snow White. (Who, I have to admit, I didn’t like even when I was little.)
For my book report I read a book called Marley and Me by John Grogan, this wonderful book is about a young couple starting there new life’s together.
Jenny and John Grogan are a young married couple, recently newly-weds, they start off there new life’s by looking into getting a dog, they look around the newspaper when they run into an ad for Lab puppies. They finally made the choice to invest in a puppy, Marley.
What’s unique about this book is it’s all one mans personal life stories, all form what he experienced, all from a dog. What really interested me was how he wrote, fist person perspective, he wrote all his emotions, thoughts, etc.
What I liked about this book is it’s something I can relate to. I also like that it provides many emotions, it supplies laughs or cries. I recommend Marley and me because its generally a good book for everyone, just because I think it’s something everyone can relate to in there own way.
The summerhouse by Jude Deveraux, is a novel about three women but by the end of the book three best friends who are all the same age and have the same birthday. Madison Appleby, Ellie Abbot and Leslie Headrick. They haven’t saw one another in 19 long years and it’s about to be all their 40th birthday. They have all agreed to celebrate it together at a nice summerhouse in Maine that Ellie’s therapist has let the use because she feels Ellie really needs to see some people other than her. Coincidentally Madison and Leslie need this just as bad as Ellie does.
They all meet up at the summerhouse expecting the others to have the lives they’ve always dreamed of but none of them did. All of them had a sadness about them that was too noticeable not to be recognized. They sat and talked for the first day about each one of their lives and what had be done to them that has made them more than sad. They all gave up on the lives they were driven to have and wanted so badly the day they all meet at the DMV in NYC. Madison Left modeling to go home and nurse her high school sweetheart that had been injured in a car accident turned out he didn’t want her for love but for him to feel like he did before, like the high school foot ball team captain. She nursed him back to health all on her own and all for free it took a toll on Madison that made her lose all that unbelievable beauty she had. Leslie ran back to her long love Alan that she had jilted just three days before they were to be married feeling guilt all her life for something she did that in all reality mad her marriage better. Ellie married unbelievable talent but in the end he didn’t do much with it but wine. He took all Ellie had in the divorce. These three women were given the gift of turning their what might have beens into reality. When a mysterious Madame Zoya allows them to relive any three weeks in their past and choose the life they have or the one they’ve made and also to choose to forget what has been done to them or to remember. Madison chooses the new life and chooses to forget her old one and the things that were done to her. Ellie chooses the new life but chooses to remember her old life. Leslie chooses her same life but to remember three weeks she relived. Madison now has 4 kids and another on the way her husbands name is Thomas there both doctors and have a clinic in Erskine, Madison’s home town. Ellie has one kid and a husband named Jessie they live on a ranch. Leslie returned home to her same husband and same two kids knowing she loves her life as it is but is returning intending to make it better and she does.
The unique thing about this book the summerhouse is that it tells three different stories in one story. You get to know three different people and see what their lives like individually, You get to know three different people and what their lives are like together. Noteworthy thing about Jude Deveraux and the summerhouse is that it’s a New York Times Best Seller.
I liked this book well because the obvious reason of relating to the book your reading, but what really made me like it was that I related in a different way not in way that I could see myself in the characters shoes as I am today but as I would or could be in the future. This book some what felt like a sign to me, a sign that says don’t give up on your life for love. If you just enjoy you and your life love will find you some way.

Written by Rick Hautala. I am going to tell you about this book and a few other things like the name of the characters, some unique facts, and what I liked about it.
This book is about these little things called the untcigahunk (which means little brother) they come out every five years. In the book a boy named Kip Howard saw his mother die by there hands. ever since then he has had to see a shrink he also try’s to run away. Kip also has a brother whose name is Marty who always beats him up. Kips father Bill is a lawyer and he gets involved with an evil man named Woody. Woody was put in jail for beating up his ex-girlfriend named Suzie There is also a strange Indian named Watson. There are also a few other characters that the writer doesn’t talk about much one is Gail Fleischer se ends up going on a date with bill. There are also two police officers one named officer Parkman the other named officer Holden. Marty’s friend Al, Al’s girlfriend Jenny. Kip and Watson end up doing a stupid thing but I’ll let you find out what they do by you’re self.
The unique thing about this book is the way writer describes things. Its almost like you can see what the character sees and feel the way he feels. It seemed that it was in the correct time period the scene the book starts in a therapist’s office.
I liked how it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Sure it will get really dark and creepy and then all of a sudden it will throw a joke at you. But I think it’s a really good book.
I would definitely recommend this book to others at EHHS especially if you’re into the creepy bloody stories
The book that I read is called old magic its about two teenagers who travel back in time to the midevil times by magic to end a centuries old curse they visit Jarrods’ old relatives which are royalty and Jarrod and Kate pretend to be married when they meet Rhauk the power full sorcerer who puts the curse on Jarrod’s family because he wants to be king and have the castle and all the lands so he kid naps Kate and Jarrod battles him for her return.
When Kate and Jarrod first lock eyes across the classroom, their connection is instantaneous. While everyone else shuns Jarrod as a freak, Kate’s passionate belief in witchcraft helps her see him what he truly is-someone with a powerful gift. What I found unique about this book is that it’s about magic and how powerful some magic is to be able to send you back time and place centuries before you were even born, and that even the most conistant and stubborn people can change their point of view on life and the world by the thought and experience of magic and finding love through it.
What I liked the most about the book was the magic and the things you can do with it, like find out people biggest fear even if they don’t know it themselves. And how Jarrod was able to control the weather just by what his mood was that he started a wind and thunder storm and destroyed a class room, and he started an earth quake at the coffee house and it nearly crumbled completely to the ground.
I recommend to read this book if you like witchcraft, magic, and two people who find Love in each other through magic then this the book for you, it has sword fighting, fire, action, romance, heart ache, and the sense of getting an idea of what’s about to happen and being blown away by what actually does happen. I loved this book and wish there was a second book to it, over all it was amazing and it’s the kind of book that holds your attention throughout the whole thing even if you’re a.d.d.
I Read The Day Of Battle. It is a book on the Sicilian and Italian campaigns during world war II. The author, Rick Atkinson, who has won the Pulitzer for this series, has gone in depth with battle maps and actual dialogues and interviews. he tells it all word for word. he has real dialogue so it is like a novel, he gives a very detailed description of planning battles and invasions and the fighting and makes it feel like an action story, and he includes a lot of cool facts that you can remember and makes you seem smart.
it is a great source of World War II history recounted step by step up until the final seconds. It keeps you on edge and gives you an in depth look on what the campaign was like and how important it was to the whole of World War II.
Running With Scissors

Running With Scissors is a memoir of Augusten Burroughs. He takes you through his life experiences from age nine to seventeen. Mostly taking place in the time period that he lived with his mother’s rather outlandish psychiatrist, and his all but usual “family”. The first section of his memoir takes place in his younger days he talks about his not quite run-of-the-mill obsession with organization and sanitation, his fathers alcoholic problem, abusive, and distant ways. His mother’s frequent visits to see Dr. Finch (the psychiatrist) and the appointments that would run on for hours and hours, leaving him to become close friends with one of Dr. Finch’s daughters, Hope. One day Deirdre (Augusten’s mother) takes Augusten to go see Dr. Finch at his house for an emergency session. The house was not anything like what Augusten imagined the house. He had pictured pristine, shiny, white, luminous tile and counters, where the entire house was just glowing it was so clean, I mean Dr. Finch was a doctor so that surely should have meant that his house was as clean as an operating table. Despite the fact that the house was rather large, when they pulled up to the rickety old house it was nothing short of disappointment and nightmarish for a boy like Augusten. Augusten is told within the same day that he would be staying with the Finch’s, some part of that boy knew that his mother was not leaving him there for only a day, but what would undoubtably turn out to be months leading to years. Augusten spends his days writing in his journal spending time with one of Dr. Finch’s other daughters, Natalie, she only being a year older then him. He gets into a verbally abusive relationship with one of Finch’s x-patients, Neil Bookman, even with the Neil being twenty years older then Augusten. After the many a years of Augusten and Natalie living in the Finch household they decide to get an apartment and attend community college, Natalie goes on at excelling at her classes, Augusten on the other hand drops out. After some eventful and saddening events Augusten is faced with having to chose his mothers side or his best friend’s, Natalie. He chooses to flee both and is employed as a waiter at a steakhouse where he begins working towards moving to New York City.
Unique facts about this book? Well I have to say that I believe the entire book is just one huge accumulation of unique facts. From the very start he’s talking of things that I would have only guessed to be fiction, or at least to be a collaboration of peoples
uh unbalanced moments in their childhood not the life story of just one man. I mean for Christ-sake Augusten was grown up by the time he was around thirteen or fourteen, he had a thirty-three-year-old boy-friend, that was last year for me I was more focused on the fact that I was going to have to switch schools, not that I had a thirty-three-year-old boy-friend waiting for me to get home.
As for things that are noteworthy about this book and about Augusten Burroughs in general, I think that we have to put in perspective that fact that he even survived this the fact that he hasn’t wanted to throw himself off the side of a building. Part of me believes that it’s partly just because he took that four to five hours a day to write in his journals. Just for the perhaps of writing maybe about nothing, but that he did the dishes, or by chance it was about everything. I think that it helped him take out or release all this anger, depression, or confusion from within. His journal was like he had his own little psychiatrist, one that he didn’t have to worry would adopt him, take him away from his mother, later on only to not help restore his mother to one, but take her apart it seems. I really think Augusten makes us think about ourselves in a different way instead of say the way some parents do like, “You better finish your meal… I mean you know there are starving children in the world.” Even though that may be a good lesson it’s almost like they are just telling us to eat more and more not necessarily go out and change anything. Instead they should be saying things like, “For however many minutes you stay out past curfew you have to donate five dollars to a charity.” I must add I don’t have anything against parents it was just a point.
Guess what I’m trying to say in a rather long way is that this book should be read. I highly recommend it. It may get a little risque, but overall it’s an eccentric and unbelievable book.

You can say that Chasing Brooklyn is about being haunted by ghosts who care, or about moving past the pain but not forgetting the memories. Brooklyn is an artist who does draw. Nicco was an active friend who sits alone. Nicco is pushing a bit far in training for a race and Brooklyn is stuck in writing letters to a dead guy and reading comic books. The ghosts of a dead boyfriend/brother and a friend brought them together through fear and worry, to share and overcome the pain the deaths have caused. Once brought to eachothers eachothers attention they learn to slow down and enjoy life a little more.
This book is written in poem form, it is not in Iambic Pentameter but something similar. It ealls a story that both draws you in with a good storyline and pulls at your emotions (probably not so much for guys of course).
I love the fear and frustration Nicco and Brooklyn feel when the ghosts move objects around the room, make dead moths appear on the bed, write messages on the window and chase the charactor(s) in their dreams. It is thrilling and exciting, with a twist of thought. As well as hauntings, fears, letters, and running the book is full of emotion and corny ‘draw-ins.’
This is a book that I think people should read but deffiently one that wouldn’t be such a great choice for everyone.

A Little bit ago, i read Hourglass by Claudia Gray. It is the Third Installment, and here is a little bit about it
The story focuses on Bianca, a half-vampire, half human girl and her boyfriend, Lucas, who is completely Human. It starts as them in the black cross, an old cult of Vampire hunters, but then switches to New York mostly, then To one of Bianca’s friends basement.
What i like about the book, like the other two, is it target’s what i love about books; Romance and Dark stuff (or vampires in this case.) As well as the other two, I also like the character description and scenery. Just like Glass Castle, it made me feel like i was there, and not in a classroom. it kept me occupied and interested, which i think every good book should do. And that was what made me burn through it faster.
I think that this book had some good history through out, because of the vampires. One was from the way old times, and he was a little lost with the new age. I mean, i would be too, if i were from thousands of years ago. Bianca’s other friend, Balthazar, was from the 1600’s, so he remembered all of the pilgrims, and the plymouth, and stuff. As was most of the vampires that were mentioned in the book.
All in all, I would recommend this book as well to EHHS students, but they better read from the beginning of the series, or they wouldn’t know what was going on. ~Jack Gardner
For my book report I read a book called Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson about a teenage girl and the trouble that come with her in her freshmen year of high school.
The young girls name is Melindia Sordino, she’s a troubled girl, she use to be bright and bubbly, but turned to quiet and shut off, due to a party she went to during the summer. All her friends are now her enemies and her parents are turning to divorce, she misses her childhood and how great she thought these years of her life were going to be. Now, she realizes, these years are going to be a nightmare.
What I found unique about this book is how much people take for granite, saying how they can’t way to grow up and be on there own, this book made me realize how greatly I am going to miss my childhood, how much I should cherish my childhood and to forever embrace the friends I have because you never know what can go wrong, and who’s going to be standing next to you in the end.
What I greatly enjoyed about this book is how much me, as one person can relate to it, this book explains so much, from how rough high school is, to how rough the outlook on life is, it really gets straight to the point and very greatly explains how hard life can be, but majorly how enjoyable it can become.
I recommend this book greatly, mostly to girls, because it is something that you do caught up in and can’t put down. I really enjoy it, just because its something I greatly relate to, maybe you can to.
The book I read is called “Becoming Me”, by Melody Carlson.
This book is about a girl named Caitlyn who is writing a diary for a couple of months of what goes on in what she thinks is a boring life. She talks about problems a lot of everyday teenagers go through. Some of her problems include facing the party scene with drugs and alcohol, falling in and out of love, changing groups of friends, not knowing what to think of religion, and a possible affair in her family. In this book Caitlyn is slowly finding out who she really is and what her purpose in life is.
Melody Carlson has written over ninety books. Many of her books have received awards such as The Gold Medallion and RITA. She has sold over two million books and some have been on the ECPA best sellers list.
What I liked about this book was how much a teenager could relate to it. The problems Caitlyn faces in this book are problems a lot of teenagers face, so a lot of teens could really relate to it. I also liked the words used in it, and the point of view it was told from. It made the book a lot more interesting.
I think other people should read it because it is a really good book, and it’s interesting. A lot of teenagers (especially girls) can really easily relate to it because these are problems teens face on a daily basis.
Dear John is a great book about first love. It’s about a girl, Savannah who volenteers at the beach. As her and her friend are walking down the dock when some guys come up and scare them Savannah drops her bag and John dives in to get it for her. After that they start hanging out and after a week they fall in love. John also meets one of Savannah’s best friends Tim and suspects that he loves her too but he won’t go for it or anything. The only problem is that John is out on leave from the army and in a few weeks has to go back to Germany.
After the first few chapters he heads back and they keep in touch they saty together by writting letters. Everyone notices changes in John even his father, who suffers from aspergers, comments on it. John and his dad have a weird relationship for most of his life it revolved around coins until one day john blows up at his father for being different and they didn’t talk much scince until Savannah.
At his first leave Savannah meets him at the airport and they go to meet up with her parents. Savannah tells John something sad that happened to her and how she wants to run a summer camp for kids with autisum. After time at her parents house Savannah and John go to Savannah’s aparatment and go to sleep. When they wake in the morning all she wants do is show John off to her friends and all he wants to do is have some alone time with her and it ends up that they get into this huge fight and he leaves. John comes back an hour or two later and they made up and slept together. A few days later John goes back to the army base.
Back on base things are almost exactly how they were before until a few months before John goes on leave and he finds out that his dad is sick. He flys back on leave early and he and Savannah only fight which kills them both. After he goes back on base, his dad is stable, the letters are different. They arn’t as close as they once were and this hurts Jonh. One day the letters just stop. After a few months of not hearing anything Savannah writes a break up letter to john telling him that she never ment to find someone else.
John can’t handle that and stays in the army ten years longer than he origanally planned until he finds out that his dad passed away. He goes to the funiral and right after he finds Savannah who is on a ranch by herself. John Finds out that Savannah had married Tim and that he was Dying in the hospital. They go and visit him together and almost get back together but John decides that Tim deserves a chace and sells everything he had and gave all the money for a new treatment for Tim. By the end of the book Tim is in remission and John is all alone. Thats how it ends and i hated the ending because if someone is willing to give up everything he shouldn’t be left with nothing.
Here is my third term book report written on A Kiss of Shadows by Laurel K. Hamilton
The book follows the story of Meredith Gentry, a private investigator in Los Angeles, but is really Princess Meredith NicEssus, Second to the royal throne of Sidhe race. The book is the first of a series, and starts with her in L.A., but then the rest is her in New Orleans to go to a banquet hosted by her Aunt Andais, who is the Queen of Air and Darkness.
Things that are very kind of like the old time is the sidhe, fey and goblin race. They are centuries old, and that makes the old age feeling more real and interesting. As well as the people living for a couple of centuries, some of the torture is still the same, such as being tossed into a bottomless pit and being left there, free falling, forever.
What i loved about this book was it was fresh. It was like nothing I’ve ever read before, and i always enjoy that. It was like i stepped into a whole new world of fantasy creatures. And i love fantasy, so two thumbs WAY up ^^.
I would recommend this book to people who like more adult books, and people who like a darker story. But if your Fifteen (like me) and you really shouldn’t be reading stuff like that, then i suggest not too. Because I would be the one to get in trouble here O_O

The Varieties Of Scientific Experience by, Carl Sagan
The varieties of scientific experience by, Carl Sagan is about the general knowledge of the universe. The book goes threw and describes to the reader things such as; the comparison between belief and fact, Nebula’s, the birth and death of a star, etc. the book is very informative and based on facts. This is a non-fiction book that has the potential to be taught in schools.
What I find unique about this book is that it teaches you about astronomy in a way that it seems that the author is speaking to you directly. Carl Sagan speaks to you in ways that are sometimes intellectual humor. To me it seemed fairly unique in a way that I was actually able to stay awake. I felt as if one of my friends was talking to me. This book was not in a text book format in any way. It was a comfortable read.
I very much enjoyed when Carl Sagan spoke about his personal views on the science of the universe. Threw out the book I felt the strong want to underline and take notes as I read along. I have written a few quotes down that I really liked and hope to share them with friends and family in the near future. One of my most appreciated quotes was the following; “I believe that it is very difficult to know who we are until we understand where and when we are” -Carl Sagan-. In this quote I feel that Sagan is saying that until you can understand your surroundings then you’ll have a more clear understanding of who you really are and can properly place yourself into those surroundings. In this book I also learned many new and surprising things. In The Varieties Of Scientific Experience it says that there are more galaxies in the universe than there are stars in the whole Milky Way Galaxy. This was an awesome discovery as well as many other facts about the universe in the book. This book inspired me to want to read some more books written by the great Carl Sagan. I also want to learn more about himself as well.
I feel that students as East Hollywood High School should read this book simply because of a few things. It is an easy read and very informative while at the same time is entertaining. I would suggest this book to anyone interested n any sort of astronomy and even people who hardly know anything about our universe and would like to learn a thing or two about science in this big black seemingly empty space we call the universe. I really enjoyed this book and plan to read it again in the future.

The book I read is Dragon Of Despair but its the third book in the series and it would be hard to understand if you hadn’t read the 2nd one Wolf’s Head,Wolf’s Heart (which I also read in your class) so my book report is gonna be on Wolf’s Head,Wolf’s Heart.
Wolf’s Head,Wolf’s Heart is by Jane LindSkold and is the 2nd book of the series right after Through Wolf’s Eyes. The story is about a teenage girl named Firekeeper who was raised by wolves her whole life then suddenly finding herself in a royal castle as a royal heir then finding herself in war taking down a queen. In this book after the war with a nation known as Bright Bay is over and Bright Bay has selected a new ruler the two nations (Hawk Haven and Bright Bay) become united allies. This may be good for Hawk Haven and Bright Bay but this causes chaos for the other nations and some nations aren’t taking this in a friendly way. The former Queen of Bright Bay (that Firekeeper defeated) goes far away to some islands with villages and becomes Queen of the Isles and takes advantage of the chaos and gains a couple of the nations in her favor. Though not many know this, the queen is hoarding three rare forbidden magical artifacts and she wants to know how to work them, the only nation that has a chance of making them work is New Kelvin but New Kelvin dose not want them unless she brings a person who knows magic to New Kelvin. The only person in any of the nations who is rumored to know magic is Melina Shield who lives in Hawk Haven and she is not a nice person. Later Firekeeper is asked to go and ruin whatever the ambitious Melina Shield is planing and steal these artifacts which is easier said then done. For now Firekeeper finds herself in a strange country with even stranger religions and must fight her way through Mazes,Lies,Foes, and the decision of whats right and whats wrong.
As Ive said before Jane LindSkold lives in Albuquerque,New Mexico she is the oldest child of three and has always had a eye for politics and even her Grandfather was the governor of Ohio so she decided to mix her love for canines with politics.
But whats amazing about this book (in my opinion) and others of the series is that the book is not just a fantasy book or like those stupid love books (don’t like love books much) It is a brain teaser it makes you use that brain for more then imagining the story you have to calculate, figure out stuff. It can be funny creepy weird and everything in between.
Well I recommend this book if your bored and you want to use your brain and if ya like books with animals or that was about the old days.
Book: Burned

Burned is about a young girl named, Pattyn Von Stratten. Pattyn grew up in a home full of rights, and wrongs, her family was over-the-top in religion, and Pattyn was curious. She started asking questions about, God, the rights of women, and love. She finds what she thinks is love and just in time her Father catches her in the act. Her Father goes wild and sends her out of state to live with an Aunt she can barely remember. There Pattyn finds alot of the
answers she’d been looking for, until she walks out of the door and finds someone in the drivedway who would change
her life forever.
In this book there are times of struggle and times of happiness. Pattyn Von Stratten is a good daughter, that is until she wanted to know more. Pattyn found herself wanting the answers but no one would pay attention to the
things she had to say. All at once her life came crashing down and there was noway to slow it down. She started getting in trouble at school, which was unusual, and disrespecting the people around her. Pattyn got the attention
but in a negative way, and it only led her to a more devistating future. She gets sent to the boonies of Nevada to live with her Aunt, for the summer, she can barely make memory of. But what Pattyn realizes is that her Aunt and Father
are total complete opposite in disipline, attitude and prospective. Pattyn’s Aunt turns out to be a lonely middle-aged woman with no desire to punish her. As she wakes up one day, Pattyn hears two voices, one belonging to her Aunt and one of a man, she walks outside and BAM she’s inlove. Ethan was his name, and she thought he was beautiful! Pattyn and Ethan started spending time together
and soon enough they were inseperable. Until Pattyn’s father comes back at the end of the summer to take her home. Pattyn tells ethan from a cell phone to go get her, and when he does they both close their eyes
and are never to awake again.
Some of the most interesting facts about this book are, the writing technique, the whole book is one big poem. The author is one of the most brilliant in my opinion and, her books are beautiful. This book relates to the young people of my generation, and reaches out to them, it tells them things they
should look out for, things that are okay, and much more. This book is very touching and anyone with a heart
would fall inlove with it.
My favorite thing about the book, Burned by: Ellen Hopkins, was the minute I picked it up I didn’t want to put it down. Since the first word I was hooked, and learning so much from a fictional book based on non-fictional problems, is something I believe sends a message. You don’t have to pick up a mental health book when you can read an interesting (fictional) story about it from someone else’s prospective in the many books writtin by Ellen Hopkins. She tells the stories of various people, different situations, and how they got through it. I also love the interaction and personal bond you feel with the fictional characters.
I strongly reccommend this book to anyone who has ever felt the need to act out, or try to fit in. Any person who dosn’t really feel interested in reading, or has never enjoyed such a thing, should power down into
the story of Pattyn and give her a chance to teach them about her fictional life and what she made of it. Burned, gives you a deep memory of itself, and reminds you to stay strong. Others at EHHS, should read it for all these reasons, and
relate, maybe, to Pattyn Von Stratten.
Book: Forever. . .
Author: Judy Blume
Katherine and Michael, who are both 17, fall “in love” in the way teens often do: a hormonally-driven attraction with no idea of who the other person even is. Kath and Michael decide to go out after just meeting each other. About 5 minutes after they start dating, Michael wants to have sex. Katherine isn’t quite ready yet, but she’s afraid of disappointing him and suggests to give him “hand jobs” instead. After Michael says the three magic words, “I love you” and actually seems to mean them, even though “love” could be better expressed as “lust”, Katherine is “ready” and they go all the way. Before they became sexually active, Kath made a secret visit to a Planned Parenthood Clinic to get a prescription for birth control pills. The first few times didn’t go so well, and they messed around to try and stay upbeat with one another. Finally, they got into the rhythm of it, “so to speak”. The two swore to love each other “forever” and Michael gives Katherine a necklace promising that he will love her, just like he said. While this was all going on, their parents both agree that they’ve been spending way too much time with each other and that they need to get jobs far away from the other to occupy themselves. Kath then gets a job as a counselor at a camp for the summer so that she can earn up money for college. Michael and Katherine were still going out even though she was gone for the summer and about to leave for college. Sadly, Kath finds herself liking another guy named Theo, who coincidentally works at the same camp. She doesn’t keep up the letters that she was writing to Michael so she suddenly just stops. Michael is then worried that something happened to Kath so he makes a suprise visit to the camp, where he finds her holding hands with Theo. Nevertheless, Michael takes Katherine to his hotel room, that he is staying at, so that he can try to have sex with her. She refuses to have sex with him and that’s when Michael discovers that nothing lasts forever. They break up and head their own seperate ways. Kath told Michael that she loved him and regret nothing they did together because what they had was very special. Katherine gave him one last hug and said that she just wasn’t quite ready for forever.
I didn’t find any unique or interesting facts in this book. Michael and Kath’s relationship didn’t last so that wasn’t very unique, and the way that they broke up wasn’t interesting. If I found anything special about this book, it would have to be the relationship that Katherine had with her parents. She loved her parents and treated them with the most respect I’ve ever seen a teenager have for their mom and dad. Another thing I really enjoyed about this book was that you felt like you were in the story. You would breathe life into these fictional characters and imagine yourself in their situations.
I strongly, STRONGLY, recommend this book to older teens, especially romance lovers! This book keeps you alive and excited about what’s about to happen next in Michael and Kath’s relationship. It was such an enjoyable novel and I personally couldn’t put this book down. If anyone is looking for a book to read this summer, I highly suggest you read Forever. . .
Jeannette Walls is now one of my favorite authors. The Glass Castle is AWESOME. I’m not even that big of a fan of books, espiacally memoirs, but The Glass Castle is so exciting that it really does keep you reading. I couldn’t put the book down.
The Glass Castle tells the depressing but thrilling life of Jeannette Walls. The mixture of the wackiness coming from her irresponsible mother and her alcoholic but brilliant and fun father, just keeps the book in your hand. Each individual memory is more exciting and crazy than the last. From going demonhunting at night to building a catapult out of wood, rocks, and an old beat-up mattress. The crazy yet sad memories have a way of putting a smile on your face as reading. The fun antics are defineitly what make this book what it is.
The writing style that the autor uses is just amazing, She describes each individual image so perfect that you can really see your self in the story.
The whole time I was reading it I really felt like I was rooting for the Walls family, as said by Newsweek. I found that when I read this book I felt like I was going to another world for however long I was reading.

I read the Host by Stephenie Meyer. This book will defiantly keep you on your feet. It will grab you and keep you reading well into the night if you like fantasy novels. Stephenie Meyer captures characters and handles story lines like a master.
Melanie Stryder is one of the characters that refuse to fade away. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intake and continue their lives apparently unchanged. When Melanie, one of the few remaining “wild” humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wander, the invading “soul” who has been giving Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human.
There is so much over whelming emotion and gut wrenching. The gult of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficultly Wander didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. This book shows how to faced affects you and your life. I would recomend this book for the studdents at EHHS.

My Book Report by Shannon Richey
For my book report, I decided to read ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy’ by Douglas Adams. It is narrated by a nameless man who talks endlessly about the intricacies of the galaxy. The story begins with Arthur Dent leaving the Earth with his friend Ford Prefect seconds before it is destroyed. Arthur and Ford are then taken prisoner by the Vogon fleet and are launched into space. Then they are rescued by the president of the galaxy Zaphod Beeblebrox and his girlfriend Trisha Mcmillan who had her name legally changed to Trillian. The four, piloting the Heart of Gold (A ship that Zaphod stole upon it’s unveiling) fly through space in search of the legendary planet Magrathea. Then, Arthur is taken by a wise old man to a factory where they manufacture luxury planets, where he is told by the man that the planet Earth was a computer that was so complex, it consisted of biological components. That computer was designed to find the ultimate question, so that the answer 42 would match it. However, it was destroyed before it could complete the program. Along with that, several excerpts from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy are read and various other random things occur.
I found myself with a plethora of things to say about this book. I thought that the Hitchhiker’s guide to the Galaxy was a very interesting book. It was filled with very funny moments, riddled with overly-complicated descriptions and almost completely devoid of any emotion aside from panic and depression, which makes it even funnier because the voice in the book describes everything as though he finds it delightful.
One interesting thing I can say about this book is that the funny moments are usually the parts with overly-complicated descriptions. Here is a part from the book that I really enjoyed:
“Bypasses are devices which allow some people to dash from point A to point B very fast, while other people dash from point B to point A very fast. People living at point C, being a point directly in between are often given to wonder what’s so great about point A that so many people from point B are so keen to get there and what’s so great about point B that so many people from point A are so keen to get there. They often wish that they will just, once and for all work out where the hell it was they wanted to be. Mr. Prosser wanted to be at point D. Point D wasn’t anywhere in particular, it was just any convenient point a very long way from points A, B and C. He would have a nice little cottage at point D with axes over the door and spend a pleasant amount of time at point E, which would be the nearest pub to point D.”
Needless to say, that particular passage is not at all devoid of description or bits that don’t need to be there. However, there are other parts that aren’t quite as droll. Such as:
‘The plans were on display’
‘On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.’
‘That’s the display department’
‘With a flashlight’
‘Ah, well the lights had probably gone out.’
‘Well so had the stairs.’
‘But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?’
‘Yes, yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a dis-used lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the leopard.'”
I think that the author Douglas Adams probably enjoyed himself quite a bit while writing this book. In fact, he liked it so much, he even printed the picture of a puzzle he had created for the series on the front of the first book. I don’t know who wouldn’t enjoy writing OR reading a book like that.
I found this book extremely amazing because, rather than doing what a fantasy does by saying ‘this is how the world really works and there’s magic and elves and dwarves such nonsense.’ the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy destroyed the world we knew before and created an entirely knew one inwhich the only thing left of our world is two human beings. And the fact that the human beings are there at all is somewhat disatisfying to me, because I would have liked to read about a completely different universe. But it was the author’s choice and it did turn out to be a very good book.
At this point in my essay, I feel as though I haven’t yet written enough. However, I will try. Reasons I would recommend this book is that it is filled with insanity, extremely quirky characters, a completely new storyline from those you’ve read before and with a style all it’s own.

The Road
In a destroyed America, a nameless man and his son trek to the coast going south in search of food, shelter, and some sign of life. They hope to find warmth there and possibly happiness. Everyday is a hopeless struggle for safety and comfort. Most of what is left of the human race are savage cannibals or killers. The loving father tries his best to keep them alive by carrying what they can in a grocery cart and backpack with a pistol as their only protection. But they’ve noticed death still seems to follow them with every step.
The author Cormac McCarthy engulfs you in a tragic horror. One tragic thing is how the father has to teach his son to survive with him, or with out him. The love between them was portrayed with deep emotion that pulled me into their trials. The boy repeatedly asked when they would die or be safe finally but the father would reply, “I don’t know”. The wilderness that used to be a great country now was a death zone with nothing but ash in the wind only floating when the wind chose to blow. There literally was nothing. McCarthy created this desolate setting by very descriptive words and detailed information. I found that, for me, I grew bored. There were paragraphs and paragraphs of only description and sometimes it felt like the book was not progressing because the circumstances were always extremely similar. It was like a slow adventure through tons of wreckage only waiting for bad things to become worse.
The Road is perfect for anyone that wants a dramatic tragedy that had a sad ending. It was written very well and the concepts were easy to understand though it was confusing as to why they were in those circumstances. McCarthy never explained what happened to America to get it that way, it just already was like that when the book started. I would have liked to had more information on what happened and why most people turned into cannibals. But if you like the feeling of not knowing how an ending really ends or how a beginning really starts, that may not bother you. Overall, it was an interesting deep read and might interest some of you.

I read the glass castle, a memoir writen by jennette walls.
This book is about her life bacicaly, her perants arnt exsactly normal, her father is kinda a crazy drunk, haha, and her mom seems sweet and indapendant. Anyways, it said they moved around a lot cuz they never had enuf monet to pay for there houses, so befor they got intruble they would move to a difrent small town,, mostly around the desert, like arizona, and nevada. her mom taught them all the important things in life. they her homless alot of the time, i think its cool how she didnt mind as a kid. cuz i know i would. So ya, they moved around alot, were poor, and now shes like rich, and merried to a cool guy. But her perants are homless. Now your probubly like oh no, what, why wont she help her poor homeless perants?? well guess what! SHE TRYS, THEY WANT TO BE HOMELESS. Crazzy, ya so its a cool book just about her life and all the things she went thiugh. And mostly about here really cool perants.
i would recamend this book to evryone. its really sad, and heart worming.Made me cry in some parts,, 🙂 so people should read it,,
The Fellowship of the Ring

The setting of FotR is Middle Earth. A large amount of the story takes place in The Shire, Rivendell and the mines of Moria. Hobbits live in The Shire, where the story begins, and elves live in Rivendale. Moria was a dwarf city, but was taken by orks. Orks live in Mordor and is the destination of the company.
The story begins with Frodo and Bilbo Baggins are celebrating Bilbos 111th birthday and Frodos 33rd birthday. Family keep asking Bilbo for his things, such as his house and his roumored wealth. At the party, Bilbo puts on the ring that turns him invisible, he found in The Hobbit. After this, Bilbo sets off on an adventure and leaves Bag End,his house, and the ring to Frodo. Gandalf, a wizard friend to Bilbo, tells Frodo to keep it safe and a secret and leaves The Shire.
After seventeen years pass, Gandalf comes to warn Frodo that the ring is really the One Ring, a ring made by the Sauron the Dark Lord. Sauron used the ring to take over Middle Earth,but was defeated by the combined armies of elves and men, led by Gil Galad and Elendil respectivly. Both were killed in the fight, but Isildur the son of Elendil took the ring and did not destroy it, and he was killed too and lost the ring in the Great River. There it was found by Gollum who had it for a long time until Bilbo stole the ring from him in The Hobbit. Now, Sauron has returned and has sent horsemen to find the ring in The Shire after Gollum was captured and tortured to give the location of the ring.
Gandalf tells Frodo to reach Rivendell to protect the ring. Sam Gammgee, the gardner, overhears all this and is forced to go with Frodo. Frodo makes plans to sell Bag End and ‘move’ to a remote location with Sam and his two cousins Pippin Took and Merry Brandybuck and friend Fatty Bolger. Merry and Fatty take Frodos posessions to his new house while Pippin, Frodo and Sam use the unused roads to not get noticed. Frodo has not heard from Gandalf like he was supposed to.
There they met the three meet the Nazgul, the riders sent to find the ring. The three get to Frodos new home, where Pippin and Merry go with Frodo and Sam while Fatty stays to hold off the Nazgul. To lose the Nazgul, they go through the Old Forrest and the Barrow Downs, but nearly die in these places but survive and helped by Tom Bombadil. They reach the town of Bree where they meet Strider, a friend of Gandalf. But at the hill Weathertop, five Nazgul attack them and Frodo is stabed by the leader The Witch King.
After several days of travle, Frodo is taken to Rivendell by Glorfindalf, but are ambushed by the Nazgul but a wave sweeps them away. In Rivendell, Frodo reunites with Bilbo and Gandalf, and a council is held to solve the problem of the ring. There, Gandalf explains why he was missing as Saruman, the leader of the wizards, turned against them and imprisoned him. A group are set to destroy the ring: Frodo who holds the ring, Sam, Pippin, Merry, Strider(or Aragorn, Isildur’s heir), Boromir son of the Steward in Gondor, a elf prince of Mirkwood Legolas, Gandalf, a dwarf who is the son to Gloin from The Hobbit Gimli. The Company tries to cross the Misty Mountains, but cannot do to heavy snow.
So they go through Moria, are attacked by a sea monster, and hear what sounds like walking in the walls. They fight the orks that live in the mines and Gandalf holds back the Balrog, but as it falls it takes him with. The others are taken in by elves that live in Lothlorien, and take to the Great River. AS Frodo decides where to go, Boromir attacks Frodo for the ring, and Frodo goes to Mordor by himself, but Sam makes him go with him.
The book is well written, the story kinda go’s overboard on info and is kind of hard to keep track of the charecters, and is too long in the middle. I recommend it to fantasy fans and to people that like the movies.

Could you imagine a secret society of vampires that’s not too secret at least not for Zoey Redbird? Let me start from the beginning, you live in a world full of vampires, actors, singers, writers, Broadway stars, and what’s worse? You know they are vampires, and you are told from birth by the “people of faith” to avoid them like the plague. Like Zoey Redbird was, the on a normal day just like any other she was “marked”. And now she finds herself forced to make new friends, finding enemies, and of course falling for the hottest guy at her new school for fledgling vampires. Then finding out that she is extremely gifted from her goddess Nyx, which is part of why the people of faith don’t get along too well with the vamps. Religion is always in issue, but that is only a small part of the whole HUGE story. As Zoey battles with the dark daughters (An on campus club that until Zoey is appointed the leader, is misled and guided to do other stuff than what is believed to be Nyx’s will.) she finds her hidden talents.
I liked this book because it is fun, entertaining and talks about a lot of stuff that comes with growing up. Like boyfriends/ girlfriends, bully’s, and friends. As a matter of fact I loved the whole series so far and can’t wait to get my hands on Burned the seventh book in the series. I think that high school is just a really stressful time for everyone; I know it is for me, I can’t speak for everyone else though. I never realized why people called high school hell till now but I get it, all the clicks, and the people who think they are better than everyone else, but those are the people that make you you. And then you also find your best friends and the people who you will never forget, and to me that is what this book and series is about, it’s also told from a teenagers’ prospective which also helps.
I would recommend this book to EHHS students because it is entertaining, and also informative, it also shows that no matter how many obstacles you face it always turns out in the end.
Under The Dome

Intro:
The story is about a small town that gets cover by a dome that cannot be broken. It is slowly taking all of the oxygen out of the air and people will all eventually die. The government doesn’t know what it is and tries everything to break it open. There is a town councilman who wants to own the town and become sheriff. His son is a real bully and him and his friends work for his dad to get rid of all the people who don’t like him.
His father operates the largest meth lab in the world out of a building he has disguised as a religious radio station. The people that run the meth lab think the dome is God’s way of punishing them for making the meth. The people in town think it is a government experiment brought on by their fry cook at the only restaurant in town, because he is new to the town and he used to be in government special operations. Some teenage kids in town find out that it is really aliens who are responsible for the dome. The bad guys in town use the chaos as a way to kill people and take over the town.
A dome covers a small town called Chester’s Mill. It covers so suddenly that cars and airplanes or anything traveling all explode on impact. At first the dome is clear and can’t be seen but as pollution and destruction build up, the dome becomes visible. The town sheriff is one of the first to die from crashing into the dome. This is when Jim Rennie decides to take over the town and kill anyone who gets in his way; the cook (Barbie) and the newspaper lady are going to do whatever it takes to stop him.
The old Sheriffs wife finds files that how Jim Rennie is operating the meth lab. She takes the proof to Jim and that is when the killing starts. Jim believes that the fry cook was sent to his town to give the government access to surround the town with the dome. He wants Barbie dead and tries to frame him for the murder of people that he has killed himself. Jim sends his son to do most of his dirty work, but he doesn’t know his son has a brain tumor that affects his judgment and will soon kill hm. His son kills 2 girls in town and visits their bodies’ everyday. They have become his way to cope with the pain in his head.
Jim Rennie makes several of his sons friend’s deputies and they abuse the power in everyway possible. The man Jim has been guarding the meth and lab has been smoking the meth and breathing fumes for so long that he has lost him mind. He now believes that the dome is punishment for the meth lab so he decides to blow it up. Which he eventually does and that make living under the dome even worse because of the fumes. People began to die from the bad air. There is looting in the stores because people are afraid of starving since there is no way to get any food to them from outside the dome. So all they have is what’s in town. People become mean and hurt & kill each other over food.
The government keeps trying different bombs and ways to penetrate the dome but nothing works. They don’t have any idea what it is made of. They arrange a day for relatives on both sides of the dome to meet and talk to each other through the dome. Time is getting short. The oxygen is almost used up and everyone will die. The meeting was for people to say goodbye. It is also the same day the meth lab is blown up and half of the town is killed in the explosion. Now Jim Rennie has put the cook in jail and his son is going to kill him. There’s a struggle and the son is killed instead. Jim Rennie takes one if his followers under ground with him to a safe shelter. Fear takes over and his ‘friend’ tries to kill him but Jim kills him instead and then Jim dies from a heart attack the dr. kept warning him he would have if he didn’t take better care of himself.
There are only a few dozen people left alive in the town now. Three of them are teenagers who discover what is really creating the dome. Near the meth lab in a big field there is a square box with a glass window. When you look through the window you see alien creatures that look a lot like ants. It reminded me of ‘frying’ ants under a magnifying glass. The creatures appear to be teenagers playing video games. The air is almost gone from the town. The government can’t figure out a way to destroy the dome.
It’s up to the cook the newspaper lady and the teenagers to find a way to destroy it. They are sucking air out of tires to stay alive. In the end the newspaper lady catches one of the teenage aliens alone in the case and begs it to let them go. She tells them they are real people not just character in a game. It works and the teenage alien presses the key on his game and the dome disappears along with the ‘box’ that the aliens had traveled to earth in.
Unique Facts:
People always seem to panic in a crisis. They can become mean and selfish. There is always someone who wants to take charge for his own benefit and see’s a crisis as an opportunity to get his way.
Chester’s Mill is a real town just north of Castle Rock, Maine. It is a small town with only about 2 thousand people. Jim Rennie is a used car business owner there and there really is a local religious radio station in a large building. The restaurant ‘Sweetbrier Rose’ is the restaurant where the fry cook – Barbie worked.
There is no meth lab there and the town is beautiful.
What I liked:
The book kept me wondering all the time about where the dome really came from. Small towns are tucked away. Some of it could really happen it talked about some of the terrible things that really do and can go on in the world and made me think. Everyone had their own idea about how the dome was created. I thought some how the meth lab had made it. In the end it was like we were the ants under the magnifying glass. I also think that teenagers are the future of the world and in the book it shows that if you just talk to us like we real people – we listen.
There were a lot of characters in the book so you had to concentrate and remember each ones place. It’s really a long book to read but it keeps your interest If you like reality. With a weird way to show it, this is a good book. I would recommend it as an interesting look at how people react in a crisis.
The book I read was titled, Before I Fall , by Lauren Oliver. Before I fall is about a girl who only has one day to live, literally. Her name is Samatha Kingston, she and her friends, Lindsay Edgecomb, Elody, and Alley are the popular click at school. One night they were attending a party for the end of the year. The party ends they start to leave, Samatha in the passenger seat. They were driving out onto the main rode and saw a flash of white. Then the starting of Sam living that same day over and over again starts.
This book deals with a common question in a unique way. What happens when you die? Instead of just passing over, going to heaven, maybe hell, roaming the earth. In Before I Fall, instead of all that, time folds over its self and encloses you to that same day over and over again.
I liked the change that Sam went through in the book. She started out thinking time goes on forever and your last day isn’t coming soon. Quote, Sam: We all think we got forever right. Time folded over on her at first she didn’t take it to her advantage, then she started doing things on a limb because she could because it sounded funny because you always could.
Other people should read this book because it shows you a different perspective on an everyday question. It keeps you reading even when you know you should close the book.

The Lightning Thief
The book I read was a fantasy novel called The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.
Percy Jackson, a regular boy at first, has trouble in school. Going from boarding school to boarding school. He comes across what will soon be his life’s quest after finding out he is a Halfling, or demigod meaning his mom is mortal and his father is a Greek god, Poseidon. He has to stop a war between the gods because of a ‘stolen’ lightning bolt of which he was blamed for and must collect three special items along the way. Percy and his friends set out on their journey and meet some very unpleasant people along the way to Mount Olympus. When they get there they find a twisted surprise in who actually stole the lighting bolt. Goes to show you can never really tell the difference between who is actually who they say they are, and those that put on a mask and a good act.
Although this book would be classified as fantasy or mythological, way back in the day people actually told these stories and believed in them to the point that some people actually feared the gods because of the great power they held. I think it’s fun to believe in it, even if it’s not really it doesn’t hurt to have a little fun with it.
I loved the mythology in this book. This book was a great release from reality and yet you can still tie in things from your life to the characters’ lives. The struggle to reach Mount Olympus gives such an amazing suspense and you get so in touch with the characters you want them to be successful and safe.
I really recommend reading this book. It did take me a while to get into this book but once I did, I didn’t want to put it down. If you’re looking for a good book to read, I suggest this one. Excellent read.
Hunger

Hunger is the second book in the Gone series by Micheal Grant. Just to give some background the first book Gone was based around how in the town of Perdido Beach and about twenty miles out from it, everyone fifteen or above disappears. Then a sort of bubble encloses them all in the area, a unbreakable and what to the touch feels like fire sort of bubble. The second book Hunger begins to go more into the story of survival, since everyone is going well hungry of course. Since food begins to run low along with other resources. Along with things such as: the beginning of building a new government, wars, fight, discrimination, new creatures, along with the powers that some of the people are acquiring.
I think part of the uniqueness of this book is the huge relation to history of the world. Meaning that the people are having to figure out ways to provide food for all the people in the FAYZ (Fall Out Alley Youth Zone) including all the children that are in the day care that a few of the older teens have been running, since a lot of the kids have lost parents and/or older siblings after the FAYZ began, and wouldn’t be able to take care of them selves with out help. Another thing is they are going through wars of who should be in control of the government, and wars fighting off “creatures” that have evolved from the pre-FAYZ animals with a mixture of something thats living in the mine shaft. While they are trying to run a working government, which is having issues with trying to stop the riots of the Human Crew vs. The freaks. And the battle of not having electricity after one of the wars in Gone(the first book in the series) takes out the nuclear power plant.
I like everything about this book I mean really, it’s like as if Stephen King had written Lord of The Flies. This is one of those books that if I read it again I’m sure I would discover new things each time. Part of the way he writes is through the different perspective of the people through out the book instead of just having one main character telling their own opinion. I love it.
My recommendation for this book is buy it! It’s really a very fantastic read. I must add that it’s got a nice layout and font, incase you’re like me when small font or the layout can stress you out. Like me. I think that everyone should read it and it’s not just a book for teens, just sayin’.

I like how the voice of the writing is so moving and it takes you to a whole new world

The Varieties Of Scientific Experience by, Carl Sagan
The varieties of scientific experience by, Carl Sagan is about the general knowledge of the universe. The book goes threw and describes to the reader things such as; the comparison between belief and fact, Nebula’s, the birth and death of a star, etc. the book is very informative and based on facts. This is a non-fiction book that has the potential to be taught in schools.
What I find unique about this book is that it teaches you about astronomy in a way that it seems that the author is speaking to you directly. Carl Sagan speaks to you in ways that are sometimes intellectual humor. To me it seemed fairly unique in a way that I was actually able to stay awake. I felt as if one of my friends was talking to me. This book was not in a text book format in any way. It was a comfortable read.
I very much enjoyed when Carl Sagan spoke about his personal views on the science of the universe. Threw out the book I felt the strong want to underline and take notes as I read along. I have written a few quotes down that I really liked and hope to share them with friends and family in the near future. One of my most appreciated quotes was the following; “I believe that it is very difficult to know who we are until we understand where and when we are” -Carl Sagan-. In this quote I feel that Sagan is saying that until you can understand your surroundings then you’ll have a more clear understanding of who you really are and can properly place yourself into those surroundings. In this book I also learned many new and surprising things. In The Varieties Of Scientific Experience it says that there are more galaxies in the universe than there are stars in the whole Milky Way Galaxy. This was an awesome discovery as well as many other facts about the universe in the book. This book inspired me to want to read some more books written by the great Carl Sagan. I also want to learn more about himself as well.
I feel that students as East Hollywood High School should read this book simply because of a few things. It is an easy read and very informative while at the same time is entertaining. I would suggest this book to anyone interested n any sort of astronomy and even people who hardly know anything about our universe and would like to learn a thing or two about science in this big black seemingly empty space we call the universe. I really enjoyed this book and plan to read it again in the future.

Warbreaker is full of wonders and adventures. The life stories in this book are amazing! And will leave you with so many questions.
The book I read was called ‘Impossible’ by Nancy Werlin
This book is about a girl named Lucy who lives with foster parents, Soledad and Leo. The story begins when Lucy is taken to junior prom by a boy named Gray Spencer. After the prom Lucy was raped by her date, and then she became pregnant. Her date also killed himself afterwards. This has all happened to Lucy becasue of a family curse. The curse is that all the girls in this family get pregnant at age 18 and go insane if they don’t complete the tasks. She must complete three tasks in order for her to keep her sanity. During all this, Lucy gets married, and trys to complete the three tasks.
Nancy has won an Edgar Award for best sellig Young adults authors. She got a b.a. in English from Yale. She was a National Book Award nominee. Her first book was published in 1994.
What I like about this book is how it started off really confusing but then it all started to make sense to me. I didn’t get the book at all to begin with but now I love it. This is a really great book with a unique story.
I recomend this book to people because the story is different than others and it catches your attention. The story is very interesting too. This story has very real feelings and stuff in it too. It’s a great book.
Lies

Lies, is the third book in the Gone series by Micheal Grant. The series is roughly about everyone fifteen or older within the twenty or so mile radius of the Perdido Beach power plant, while the area is also sealed off with a giant sort of sphere that is unbreakable and feels like fire. Lies is about well, there’s a lot to it first: the people have split into two groups the Human Crew and then everyone who’s against the HC. The HC(Human Crew) is against all the “freaks” freaks being the people who acquired powers once the FAYZ(Fall Out Alley Youth Zone) started. It’s kinda hard to explain without one telling you everything about it, and two not expelling all of Gone and Hunger as well.
I think that what makes this book unique is that this book doesn’t treat teens like these helpless idiots. But rather showing that they can overcome everything that is happening around them, from war to starvation. Gone was more talking about how they were able to just get over the FAYZ starting, and people/animals changing and evolving. Hunger was more about, well I think it says most of it in the tittle, they have to overcome starvation and running low on resources. As for Lies is more a conflict of religion. With someone saying that they can reach into peoples dreams on the outside of the FAYZ wall and that she’s able to talk to the parents. And the towns council telling people that its a lie(hey book title) because they don’t want people to “step out” believing that it’s suicide. Really quickly I should probably add that to “step out” is when ever you turn fifteen you have the choice of disappearing to where they don’t know where you go, or to continue living in the FAYZ.
What do I like about it? What don’t I like about it? I finished the second book Hunger late last August and have been waiting for this book Lies since the day I finished Hunger. Lies came out on May sixth I finished May eighth, and now i’m waiting for Plague to come out. I think a lot of what I liked about this book is what I wrote about in it’s uniqueness, thats why I like it so much is because it’s different. There is a lot of fantastic things about this book I mean all the different surprises and aspects are amazing. With the battle of the HC vs. Freaks and the way they evolve the government along with the economy. The main character Sam’s struggles from being a hero to the town council telling him what he can and can’t do which doesn’t help them when something bad happens and they’re sorry that then because they really can’t survive without him.
I recommend this book 100% to everyone it’s not the hardest read, it’s got a nice cover I say those things because those are usually things I look for. Yeah I know don’t judge a book by it’s cover, well sorry. It’s a extraordinary story and this is one of the very few series that I can re-read over and over again. It’s not a story about how someone can’t do something so they quit and it all works out in the end. It actually has structure. I can’t write enough about how great this book is. Go buy it. Okay thanks.

Bitten (a romantic comedy) written by Robert Smith is about Trust Williams who is sent to Thelma’s Way in Tennessee to serve his mission. Trust wanted to go somewhere fun for his mission so when he gets the news he is going to Tennessee he is shocked and upset. As Trust spends time in Thelma’s Way and gets to know the people there, he becomes attached to them like they are family. Trust soon falls for the mysterious Grace and from then on it is complicated and and unforgettable story.
Throughout Bitten Trust grows up and the people around him become new to him as his life grows.
Bitten is a book i thought i would never read but as i got bored and was going through all my books trying to find a book to read i decided to read it and now it has become one of my favorite books. I love the characters in this book and i love how it shows how people change by the simplest choices that are made.
If you like romantic funny books that keep you hooked till the end then Bitten by Robert Smith is the book for you. 😀

Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer is the thrid book in the Twilight saga written in 2007, is about Edward and Bella have overcome alot and in the third book there is a certain somone wanting revenge. Victoria comes back to kill Bella because Edward killed James ( Vitorias mate) in the first book in the saga Twilight and with the rage from James death, Victoria is out to kill Bella, a mate for a mate. The Cullens team up with the La Push wolves to keep Bella safe and Bella has to make a choice between Jacob her bestfriend or Edward the love of her life.
I loved reading this book because not only is it a story of a love that could only happen in dreams, but it also has action and fighting that kept me entertained.
Yes most people don’t like this book because it doesnt follow the vampires that we all grew up with, but this is the best book out of the series and I reccomend this book to everyone who is willing to read it.

The families go into hiding because the brutality against the Jews is getting worse. The family hides in a secret part of the building. It is small space to fit eight people and a cat. They have to be dead quiet and they don’t have much food. The diary shows the journey of a thirteen year old girl forced to deal with the issues of adults, her struggles with the people around her, growing up, and getting to know herself. She wrote in the diary very often and was re writing it when they were taken. The story shows how a young girl is forced into a world of hate, descretion, and discrimination. How ordinary people had to live in poverty and had horrible things done to them based on their faith. Anne and her family are captured and eventually, they die but the only survivor is Anne’s father. A friend who retrieved the diary gives him the diary. After he reads it, he is stunned by all that his daughter held back and how she truly was. Eventually it was published and since, it has sold millions of copies worldwide and has been translated into more than sixty languages. If you like books about history or books about the little details in the overall picture, then I recommend The Diary of Anne Frank.

I read the book called “Dirty Little Secret” by C. J. Omololu.
This book is about a girl named Lucy. Lucy is 16 years old and she pretty much hates where she lives. She spends as much time as she can away from her home and with friends. The reason she is this way is because her mother is a hoarder. There house has mountains of garbage that reach from the bottoms of the floor the tips of the ceiling. There is so much stuff they have to turn their bodies sideways just to get through the hallways. The plumbing in their house does not work, they have no hot water either. The only clean spot in the house is Lucy’s room. Her room is clean because she can’t stand the mess. When she cleaned her room her mother yelled at her and took the door away so she could see what Lucy was doing and so she wouldn’t betray her. One day Lucy came home from a friend’s house and found her mom lying on the ground dead. Lucy did not know what to do about the situation. She did not want to call 911 because if she did all the emergency services would see the mess and her house would be put on the news. If she let that happen her life would be ruined and so would her brother’s and sister’s. So she just decided to try and clean the house. She just gave up a day into it because she was not making enough progress and it was not working for her. So what is she going to do to fix the situation and not let her families’ lives get ruined?
This book is unique because it talks about the story of a girl who lives with her mother who is a hoarder. She tells her story of how horrible her life is with her mother and how all she wants is to get out.
I like this book because it is interesting and it tells a different kind of story than most books. It doesn’t talk about love, or relationships, everyday problems or even vampires, but it talks about a girl who lives with her mother who is a hoarder.
I recommend this book to anyone who questions the life of people who hoard. It really is an interesting book. Even if you’re not interested in the life of people like this it still is an interesting book that you can get really into.
The book that read is the world book three, huntress
Its about a girl jez who thinks shes a full a vampire, but on the last hunt of her life learns differently. Her mother was human and her father was a vampire, she runs off to live with her human family and joins circle day break. One day they come to her and tell her that one of her old gang member, morgead who she thinks hates her but later finds out their actually soul mates, s has found a wild power and she has to go get it from him. She ends upp almost dying doing it but succeeds in the end by finding out that she’s actually the wild power.
What I find unique about t is that its about vampires and humans who are supposed to hate eachother end up falling in love and having child which isn’t supposed to be possible and and later that child falls inlove with a vampire that she grew up with, and unlike most books the vampires don’t burn or up in sunlight, they don’t sparkle either, their powers just get a little weaker.
I liked everything, mainly because it was about vampires, witches, werewolves, humans all falling in love and their battles and journey’s they go on to find ways to make it work and it actually has a lot of violence in it kind of so I really like that.
I recommend this book for everyone no matter what kind of books you like to read it’s pretty much all of those different types of books smashed into stories and it can be a book for people of all ages, I read this to my five year old sister and she loves it, and I got my grandparents and parents to read it. They al have different types of books but all loved this book, which just proves my point that it can almost everyone hooked on it no matter what your taste is.
I finished reading“Splinter Cell Checkmate.” Over all it’s a great book. I liked this book and i will want to read the others. I have also read some of the other Tom Clancy books and I think they are all great. The main reason I like this book is because I like suspense and thrillers that let you figure things out on your own.
The main character in the story is Sam Fisher he works for the government. He is the definition of a spy. As he is called off vacation, he is sent to a suspicious small boat. After investigating he discovers that there is toxic chemicals abored. The boat hits a small city in Mexico, and poisons the water supply killing six million people. Sam’s job along with the help of the people at third echelon, is to discover the killer and deal with them.
The creator of this book, tom Clancy, is a military expert.
The reason I like his books is because he actually knows what he is talking about. Its not fictional. Its real life
I liked this book because the writer is so descriptive. He made the scene so easy to picture so the book was more enjoyable. I like any splinter cell story line.
but there were also somethings i didnt like about the book. The story switches between Sam’s story, and explaining the back story. This is good but also very boring, and sense it switches a huge part of the book is boring. But i guess storyline is as important as action.
This is a really good book and I think anyone who likes action books should read it. Even if you don’t like military, its very entertaining. This isn’t my favorite book, but it is my favorite series
Basically the same as the last one. Come on!

So basically this book doesn’t have a beginning middle or end.
It contains many stories about kids who have gotten into trouble and the consequences they have to face. It includes stories on drunk driving, vandalism, shoplifting, drive-by shooting, drugs, al kinds of things. In each little storied they talk about a different crime, and explain what horrible things can happen to you.
What’s unique about this book is it came from 20 true-life stories on kids who broke the law. It’s a good book for kids getting into trouble and not knowing how bad the consequence may be.
I really enjoyed this book because I had been getting into trouble a lot and not knowing how bad the things I was doing were. It really showed me that there’s ways to having fun without getting into trouble with the law. I really recommend this book to anyone who makes bad dissuasions and doesn’t know the consequence to their reactions.
